Divers must learn from whales,
Remember to come up for air,
Ritually, habitually.
We can wish to be fish all we want,
The fish already know whatever we’re trying to find,
But unfortunately, fish can’t talk and we are mammals.

This is our fault for not loving the strange girls,
This happened because she loved us too much,
And when we didn’t love her, she had no choice but to search in dark corners.
She was so open, wide open.
She painted paradise as her only alternative to self-destruction,
She painted paradise for strange girls, for me, for you,
Where else can we go when we remember the secret?
“
“Who just gave that speech? With the coat?”
“That’s Athena. She’s pretty out there, you know.”
I don’t know.
They don’t know that I am her, and she is the dead girl.
Athena is next to me, we both stand looking at a painting of our wide open paradise,
And then she turns (and looks) into me.
“That was beautiful, what you said,” I say.
She just touches my arm and BURSTS INTO FLAME, AND WIDE EYES LOOKING AT ME, SCREAMS, “WE COME FROM THE SAME UNIVERSE.”
